There were some chapters that bored me so thoroughly that I simply read a Sparknotes summary of the rest of the chapter so I could move on.

The writing and imagery are superb and I always love a “down with tyrannical overloads, generic living, and medicalization” moral, but its other lesson leaves me cringing. The book’s climax involves one of the hyper-masculine man’s man characters choking the woman out, ripping her shirt off, exposing her massive breasts in some sort of symbolic exposing of her femininity, something she was trying to hide behind her power over the men or something. Yeah, they kind of gloss over that little detail.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. It was over forty pages before the main character was even introduced also before I realized the first-person narrator is NOT the main character, which stylistically is a fascinating and unusual choice.
After this tumultuous period he bought farm in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, settled down with his wife to raise their four children, and taught a graduate writing seminar at the University of Oregon. Then somewhere at about the two thirds mark, there is a fishing trip.
At the time of the publication of this novel, I’m sure things like electroshock therapy needed to be brought to light to showcase the horror they cause. But I found that it was hard to get through this book because there were so many descriptions mingled with opinions and this is because it is written in the first person point of view through the Indian. InKesey died of complications after surgery for liver cancer. McMurphy has a criminal past and has once again gotten himself into trouble and is sentenced by the court.

I decided to read this novel because it is lauded as a great modern classic and I had it on my to-read list, plus I’d seen and enjoyed the film many years ago. His later works include the children’s book Little Tricker the Squirrel Meets Big Double the Bear and Sailor Songa futuristic tale about an Alaskan fishing village and Hollywood film crew.
If you are unable or fearful of doing so, you’re better off killing yourself than being only half of a man. I was never really sure whether what he was saying was actually accurate so I was often confused as to what was really going on. I needed more backstory on her, less on all of the damn men. Full Cast and Crew. Nurse Itsu Nathan George I favor individualism over unquestioning acceptance of authority. This book is hard to get through as much as it is to get through Titicus Follis The Documentary Film because of the harsh reality of how mental institutions are depicted; one through fiction and one through a documentary.
