Even though it’s only a two-star book, I find myself holding onto it because I’m rather proud of my collection of retold fairy tales. I spent pages with her before I gave upand through that entire time, not once did I feel like she had any tangible qualities.
It’s been quite a while since I read this, so I will leave a proper review until my eventual re-reading but I will say that as it is based on my favourite fairytale, I can remember being particularly harsh on this retelling. Lists with This Book.

But ediith much I enjoyed it and it kept me interested, it was slow. When she gets to the Troll kingdom, Rose describes the other humans there with the troll word for human, soft skin.
Inspired by Your Browsing History. Every other older woman is shown to be stupid, silly, or cruel or all three. Also by Edith Pattou. The novel is edihh in a style similar to that of Brian Jacquesincluding the use of a change in point of view in each chapter.
Her treatment of the white bear and the four winds was interesting, but I didn’t really appreciate the latter until I read her own afterward which, incidentally, was more interesting than the story itself. But first, in case you don’t know, “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” is a wonderful fairy tale.
Stronger, Faster, and More Beautiful. While pregnant exith Rose, Eugenia is adamant that her unborn child will be an east-born, so much so that her very non-superstitious husband worries that she is tempting fate.
I really felt that the relationship between Rose and the bear was not as well done as it could have been. However, the magic of EAST lies in how eidth common elements—straightforward prose, a retelling—fit together. Third nitpicking problem – The emotional bond between Beauty called Rose in this novel and her Beast just doesn’t seem real.
The ice castle was probably my favorite part. I think when it’s time for Christmas, a lot of people are going to find this book in their stocking. My first problem, my first nitpicking problem, is the names. I liked the portrayal of the trolls and how you get into the mind of the Troll Queen and see some of her motivations better. I do appreciate it though. The narration style didn’t help things.

I have seriously been missing out because Rose is kind of the perfect pattlu The secondary characters—even in brief appearances—make the most vivid impressions; Rose and Charles seem somewhat opaque. Thanks for telling us about the problem.
Which, don’t get me wrong, was certainly refreshing, but the novel was slow-paced already, and having nothing in the romance department along with nothing in the action department lead for a bored Morgan. It’s true that Rose isn’t the only female voice of the novel. Like Rose, the Troll Princess has an older woman as quasi helper. It is also telling that when Rose decides to make friends with the Bear’s servants, it is the male patttou she reaches out to.
And at least it has polar bears Most of the voices are male. Her happy and loving childhood is failing: Of particular annoyance was Rose’s mother – she was incredibly superstitious, and nothing else.
