I know that everybody loves Saramago. I just wish Saramago had learnt how to use commas and fullstops at school; to be a bit less clever or pretentious as some people would say ; and finally to be better at keeping me entertained. It’s obvious a genius wrote it. Seriously now, I might disagree with a lot of the people that have read this book, but I found most of it utterly boring.

Just go saeamago read Kazantsakis or And Jesus lives with Mary Magdalene as a husband would. From inside the book. Unlike great authors, Saramago never offers much room for interpretation or the possibility of being wrong or even in doubt.

Saramago no es mi autor favorito. Want to Read saving…. This book made me think “ooh, isn’t this author smart” but I felt nothing for the characters.

The problem is that Saramago sometimes makes assertions without offering any sort of narrative argumentation i. Jesus is more human, than divine. Saramago’s idiosyncratic style and refusal to use quotation marks or italics or create indentations more than once or twice a page is, in my opinion, no good.

I wanted to read a first person account of the life of Jesus Christ, and the book definitely didn’t delivered that It is no wonder that the first time I picked up this book to try reading it, I didn’t get past the first few pages – it just bored me – and that it took a cross Atlantic flight of 6 hours for me to finally get far enough along to end up finishing the book.

But I doubt that I eegun venture into reading other Saramago books.
