It was narrated in a unique way which added different elements to the story. A very heartbreaking story. I must admit I was unsure about this book to begin with, but once I got through the first few chapters I became intrigued as to what was going to happen.

The story did paint DoCS as being pretty useless, although I can’t judge on that as I’ve never had any need for them before personally. Having read the back of the book, I was expecting an action packed thrill ride, but it isn’t like that, it’s a slow tale through the history of a family which eventually culminates in a tragedy. I’d read the blurb and the first chapter so I had an idea in my mind of where the book was going but Overington turned it right on its head and it turns out that the first chapter is actually somewhat towards the later part of the story. What you take from letter and how you believe things should have happened is down to the reader to decide.

How does that happen?! There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news. Blue stayed local for a while and then headed up to Lightning Ridge to try his hand at mining. It’s so refreshing to read a book like this being set in Australia. I really loved this book. Every now and then you read a book where everything works for you.
