Fast forward to the next day and the whole crowd are up the giant beanstalk to discover a smallish giant who hasn’t been eating the girls sent up to thhe on their twenty-first birthdays, but has been treating them in his theme park, Ogreland. This is a quickfire trip through pantoland, with many characters and much panto fun – in a short space of time! An overgrown elf called Alf provides an interesting alternative to the usual pantomime fairy. There are plenty of laughs with a silly schoolroom scene, fun with a magic hat and oranges falling on heads.

Forget the rest — this is simply the best! Jack’s family are so poor that they must sell their treasured pzntomime. The Dame throws the beans out of the window with the usual result, and whilst Jack is climbing the beanstalk to have a nother go at the giant, Fleshcreep is busy about town capturing the Princess and taking her up to the Giant’s Castle.

You really know your stuff when it comes to writing panto! Unfortunately they entrust the job to Jack, whose profit is a handful of beans. Alice unexpectedly teams up with Jack and his magic beans to overthrow the Queen of Hearts in this rhyming one-act collision of tales.

Whilst the author suggests that there should be a final song, he doesn’t suggest what it shouldbe! The Royal Equerry, a bit of a twit. Um, yes of course I mean apart from you. Jack’s Mum Dame Jolly can’t pay the rent so they sell off family pet Lulubelle the cow. Meanwhile Jack has fallen in love with Princess Jill. Jack’s mum Dame Dolly Mixtures can’t pay the rent so they sell off the family pet Daisy the camel. He thinks his luck has changed when he falls in love with Jill, the Barons daughter.

As with all pantomime many of these parts could be played by male or female of any age. Jack ends up with only pabtomime bag of beans to show for his trouble.


Where are you going?

The Trott’s are forced to sell off their only cow, Daisy, but they are tricked at the market and Jack returns home with a bag of beans instead of the gold he had expected. Under the protection of the Fairy, Jack is instructed to visit the Giant’s beanstall and get the golden eggs without waking the crying harp.
