On one hand the drawing seemed less glossily professional and compelling than what one finds in most other Grimm books. Hardcoverpages.

There are truly some fun stories in the Zenescope Universe. This review also appears with more sample images on my blog. I was quite frankly, peed off by that ending, and it definitely didn’t improve my feelings towards the whole story of Dorothy and Oz.

He assures us that the actual stories his writers produce present women we can be proud of, but he has no qualms about reducing these supposedly strong characters to their base bodies. I found myself looking forward to the next comic for the cover and I found myself immersed into the illustrations in the comic, especially the full vrusha ones; they really did compliment the whole feel and style of the comic and yes, I still have a problem with the damn outfits the women in comics wear, I mean, seriously Dorothy, you’ve been wearing the same outfit for around 3 days, you’ve been attacked, kidnapped, fought about five battles and still managed to keep shards of your outfit in place enough to cover your dignity.

The artwork is fairly good, but quite variable. Yet they are selling clothing that I would not let my daughter wear and probably no girl under ioe age of 18 should be wearing.

Zenescope’s Joe Brusha and the Problem with Provocative Covers

As for the story, I didn’t feel like there was much character development, so I didn’t really care about the characters. The new ruler of Neverland needs human blood to grow his power and he plans to take his prey from the one of the worlds biggest cities – New York – by pulling it and all it’s residents The sequel to Zenescope’s hit Grimm Fairy Tales spinoff, Neverland, is now available in trade paperback!

I didn’t really enjoy the story, but I did like the artwork. I’m not sure if it was flashbacks or just little bursts of back story coming through but that just didn’t work for me. Some for the worst. This hasn’t personally bothered me, but I noticed it has been a problem for a lot of readers.

So Dorothy sets out on a journey across Oz to complete the scepter, of which Toto’s rod was a part, and use it to destroy the Wicked Witch of the West and return home.

Bruwha rated it it was ok Jun 19, We kind of get to learn bits and pieces about this as she does but I really wish more of that was explained. I have no problem with sexy characters but this was gratuitous. The review above was not paid for or influenced in any way by any person, entity or organization, but is my own personal opinions. I enjoyed this reimagining of Dorothy and Oz and found it much lighter than some of the other Grimm stories I have read.

One, a lot of people just assume that because the cover is sexy that the story has no substance. How he relates to the original “cowardly lion” is not revealed until near the end of the book. Tell everyone about yourself.

Mar 06, Bookwraiths rated it liked it Shelves: However, the story jumped all over the place. I was kind of hoping for a Terminator type half man half machine character since Zenescope tends to take these classic characters to extremes.

We have Dorothy, a Kansas farm girl ioe adopts a wolf as her pet, and names him Toto. Mar 05, Ashley Ferguson rated it liked it.

Rather than setting out alone, Dorothy begins her quest in an RPG-approved cliche party consisting of a magic user Glinda, the Good Witch of the Northa warrior Thorne, a member of the lion-like Kavari tribeand three short comic-relief types Sparky, Crumb, and Crank, who are Boggers–don’t call them munchkins!

There, it is found by a girl who can, mysteriously, wield it, although it should be possible only for the most powerful of Highborns. If I explained further, I would be keeping you from experiencing the frustration of it all.

Story-wise, I enjoy the action, but felt it didn’t do as much as it could with the Oz characters. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. And the ending is rather spectacularly unsatisfying. I didn’t hate brushha, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, either.
